Medway Dragons RLFC Visibility & Profile Workshop RFL Community Congress
Medway Dragons RLFC Local Media “Top Tips” • Research local papers and contact the Sports Editors. • Try to meet the Sports Editors in person. • Find out what they want and by what deadline (and then meet them!). • Make Match Reports interesting and fun to read – short and precise is good. Sports Editorscan be lazy. • Photos – all action, clear and correct size for media. One or two with each report is good. • Consider a “Unique Selling Proposition” in reports and releases. • Always send a report, even if you lose.
Medway Dragons RLFC Good Photos!
Medway Dragons RLFC TV & Radio • Very difficult to get interested unless you have a “USP”. • Had some coverage at launch – but that’s it (BBC Kent Sports Report). • We do face “Union” bias. • Moderate success with on-line broadcasts on newspaper websites.
Medway Dragons RLFC Getting Noticed in the Community • Be different! • Consider “high profile” President (e.g. local MP). • Target Sports Awards and build good nominations. • Consider partnerships with other organisations. • Schools, both Primary & Secondary. • MEND. • Clubmark raises profile immensely and opens all sorts of doors. • Write about it all!
Medway Dragons RLFC Summary • Appoint a Media Manager (volunteer!). • Build relationships with Sports Editors. • Match reports are “not an option” for teams! • You always need a “USP”. • Do not just write about what happens on the field. • Build Partnerships. • ClubMark is very powerful.
