Graduation Programs • Recommended Program • Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) • Regular High School Program • This plan is determined by a high school committee.
Recommended Program CORE COURSES • 4 English credits • 4 Math credits (Alg.1 in MS counts) (MMA*) • 4 Science credits (IPC*) • 4 Social Studies credits • Plus additional required courses and electives to minimum 26 credits. EOC = cumulative score requirement + satisfactory on the Alg II & English III EOC
Recommended Program Other Required Courses: • Fine Art = 1.0 credit • Communication Applications = .5 credit • Health = .5 credit • Technology = 1.0 credit • LOTE = 2 levels of the same • PE = 1.0 • Electives = 4

High School Schedule • Known as an A-B block schedule • 8 total classes • A days = 4 classes • B days = The other 4 classes • Alternate days (lunch is 3rd period) School starts at 8:45 and ends at 3:55 Each class is 90 minutes with a 7 minute passing period

GPA/Class Rank • Grade points are assigned to each SEMESTER grade • Grade points are then averaged • Example: English 1 = 85 semester average • That equals 3.5 grade points in a regular class • That equals 4.5*** grade points in a Pre-AP class

PreAP & AP • 85 percent of selective colleges and universities report that a student’s AP experience favorably impacts admissions decisions • Drop window will be at end of 1st 6 weeks • Eligibility Waiver available
Your Homework • Complete Course Request for 2011-12 • Complete your 4 year plan on paper • Visit your Family Connection and plug in your 4 year plan- “Courses” tab • Pickup is February 15th • Please have your course request prepared as the counselors will complete yours for you.
Course Changes for 2011-12 • Teachers are employed based on student course requests. • Students will be able to make adjustments to their course requests through May 13, 2011 • Can view course requests via HAC • 82nd Legislature expects cut in funding

TOP TEN PERCENT If you graduate in the top 10% of your class AND follow the application process, you can be admitted to any State of Texas college or university UT is now top 9%
ATHLETICS The WHS coaches will have meetings at the high school at a date to be determined. If you have never played a competitive sport, it is not recommended that you begin that in 9th grade without some type of previous experience. There are summer camps that you might consider.
