Direct object pronouns • What is a direct object (DO)? • It is the word in a sentence that receives the action of the verb. • Example: I bought the tickets. • Hint: say to yourself “who?” or “what?” after the verb.
Direct object pronouns • What is a direct object pronoun? • It is a word that replaces the DO when it’s already been mentioned • Example: I bought them.
Direct object pronouns • You bought the lift tickets. You bought them. • I wore the sunglasses. I wore them. • David took the chair lift. David took it. • We invited Elena. We invited her. *these are English DOPs*
Direct object pronouns • Based on the examples above, DOPs can replace: • a thing • things • a person • more than one person
Direct object pronouns • You already know three Spanish DOPs… • And you know that they go… ME TE NOS …immediately before the verb
