Third NSF Workshop on US-Africa Research and Education Collaboration Abuja, Nigeria, December 13-15, 2004 Development and Computer Simulation of the Performance of Solar Oven for Meat Roasting Musa Momoh Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto
Aims and Objectives • To evaluate and predict the efficiency of a solar oven for meat roasting through modeling and simulation • Examine the influence of varying system parameters on the thermal performance • Theoretical and experimental data on the environmental factors like insolation, wind speed, and ambient temperatures are used to predict the oven thermal output (efficiencies) Third US-Africa Research and Education Collaboration Workshop Abuja, Nigeria, December 13-15, 2004
Study Approach • Modeling and computer simulation based on the equivalent thermal network (ETN) method have been carried out to evaluate and predict the daily thermal efficiencies of the Solar Oven. • The ETN method was validated by comparing with experimental data Third US-Africa Research and Education Collaboration Workshop Abuja, Nigeria, December 13-15, 2004
Results • ETN method is a proven accurate method for design with a predicted daily efficiency varying within 4% from experimental data • Simulation results have been used to find the optimal size of the oven to be 100 cm x 75 cm x 45 cm Third US-Africa Research and Education Collaboration Workshop Abuja, Nigeria, December 13-15, 2004
