Placement testing NEXUS PROGRAM (Network for Excellence and Undergraduate Success) MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF BALTIMORE COUNTY
What you will learn • What is placement testing? • Where do I take the test? • How do I prepare for the placement test?
What you should know about placement testing • Accuplacer is a multiple choice, computerized adaptive test, meaning, your answers to the first few questions dictate the remaining questions asked in a particular section. This technique selects just the right questions for your ability level. You must answer every question when it is first given.
What you should know about placement testing continued… • Each test is untimed so that you can give each question as much thought as you wish. You can change your answer to a particular question before moving on to the next question, but you cannot leave a question out or come back to it later to change your answer. • When taking the math assessment test, the Elementary Algebra test will appear first. Depending on your performance on the Elementary Algebra questions, you may also continue testing in one of the following areas: Arithmetic or College Level Mathematics.
What you should know about placement testing continued… • The results of the placement test, along with your high school transcript, will be used to determine what courses you will be taking as you enter CCBC (and later, as you enter MSU).
Preparing for the placement test • It does not hurt to refresh your memory so we encourage you to practice questions that are similar to the ones asked on the Accuplacer. • In addition to the practice questions offered by the College Board, students can also find practice questions by doing a search for Accuplacer online in Google.
