Motivation DESY needs a visitorcentre History 2016: First discussionswithlocalgov. officialsfor a XFEL visitorcentre in Schenefeld> City of Hamburg motivated DESY todevelop a conceptfor a DESY visitorscentre in coordinationwiththe XFEL visitorcentre 2016: DESY-PR developed 1st proposal> lack offunding 2018: Extra moneyforenhancingthe non-scientificinfrastructure> DESY Directoratedecidedtobuildthevisitorcentre DESYUM 2018: Basic conceptforthebuilding was developed The publicshowsgreatinterest in DESY • Organisedcampustours> 10k visitors per year (limited bynumberof tour guides) • 2000: Exhibition Light forthenewMillenium> 100k visitors in 5 months • 2013, 2015, 2017: DESY DAYupto 20k visitors in 1 day
DESYUM Basic conceptforthebuilding The visitorcentre will becomethecentralandrepresentativeplaceforinformationabout DESY forthepublic. The goalistoinformandeducateabout top research at DESY andcreatefascinationandinterestfor DESY, futureprojectsandscience in general. The building will host a scienceexhibitionandofficespacesfor DESY groups (e.g. PR, ITT). Itis a communicativeplace – forvisitorsand DESY staffmembers.
