  1. God is Holy – Beware/come nearIs.6:1-7 • God is dangerous – “Keep your distance” a. God warns his people not to get too close:- - Mt. Sinai – Ex.19:12,16,18,19 - Tent/temple – Most Holy Place “Restricted area”, “Danger”, “Beware” b. Danger signs are ignored:- - 2 Sam. 6:6,7; 2 Chron.26:16-21

  2. Why is God dangerous? • He is the Creator – terrifyingly great The sinless, dazzling seraphim:- - cannot look at him – Is.6:2 - do not want to be seen by him Cf. looking at the sun 2. He is totally pure/perfect – Habb.1:13 Human sin has made God dangerous –Is.6:5

  3. 2. God is welcoming – “Come near” How can God be both dangerous & welcoming? • O.T. - Tent/tabernacle & temple - Sacrifices – Is.6:6,7 b. Jesus - Becoming one of us - Dealing with our sins on the Cross Story of the Great King - Is.57:15

  4. 3. We are to be Holy • It is only God who can make us holy – Lev.20:8;21:8;22:9,16,32 • It is in relationship with God that we are made holy 1. We recognize we are sinners 2. We are cleansed by God – become saints/ holy ones 3. We are changed by the Holy Spirit who makes us more like Jesus

  5. 4. Let us make sure we:- • Recognize that God is Holy 1. We are filled with amazement – WOW 2. We are eager to come to him as his children b. Live as God’s holy people 1. Don’t play with sin – we confess it 2. Eager for the Holy Spirit to teach & change us
