  2. 2013 – 2014 Florida Governor Matthew Cantrell’s “STEPS TO EXCELLENCE” ACTIVITIES INVOCATION MAY 8, 2014 MEETING SPEAKER Heavenly Father, Stir us to listen to the needs of humankind, and to do our part to assist those in need. Teach us to meet each day gratefully and to realize that we can create more happiness by serving others than doing for ourselves. And now bless this food to our use and us to Your service. Amen Kim is passionate about providing leadership, making connections, and supporting collaboration across organizational systems to help facilitate positive change that contributes to the health and sustainability of an organization. Kim's primary professional experience comes from facilitating change processes within a Montessori school environment with the goal of better serving the educational and emotional needs of students, their families, and the communities in which they live. In her nine years with Discovery Montessori School, Kim has had the opportunity to take an independent school system through a process of strategic planning and organizational development. As a result of her leadership and the efforts of the school Board, administrative team, and staff, Discovery Montessori School offers a world-class progressive Montessori experience consistent with best practices in education, environmental stewardship and operational efficiency. From: “Invocations for Kiwanis Occasions” by James J. Muench BOARD MEETINGS Every 2nd Monday Ms. Kim Bednarek Head of School Discovery Montessori School In Jacksonville Beach PRESIDENT’S NOTES ELECTION TIME! It’s time to select our new slate of officers for next year. I am willing to serve one more year as president if needed. However I am going to run for Lt. Gov. the following year so we must have a President Elect this year. We had a good turnout for the Division Council meeting including our newest member, James McComb. Great to have him aboard. We will have a busy summer with the construction of a patio for Finnegan Elementary so keep August 4/5 open and we need to try to get some help from our Key Club for this work. Planning and searching for sponsors for the Sep. 27 Chalk Art Contest will demand our attention. So, it’s off to work we go! The first clubs were organized to promote the exchange of business among the members. However, the members were distributing Christmas baskets to the poor. A lively debate ensued between those who supported community service as the Kiwanis mission and those who supported the exchange of business. By 1919, the service advocates won the debate. Thank You Readers! On 5/20, LalRamdeen and John Bates read at the Navy Child Development Center. NO BIRTHDAYS OR ANNIVERSARIES
