Please check/download the following: • The VADEMECUM from the Faculty of Languages website – both general and for Inglese I or II for details of the overall programmes and exams • The Academic Calendar from the Faculty website for details of exams and semester dates • My teaching material which you can find on www.uniurb.it/lingue - materiale didattico. Please check this on a regular basis as it is a work in progress and will be updated continuously. • The Last Minute section for past exam papers.

  4. Books you must buy: • For first year students: • English Grammar in Use Third Edition by Raymond Murphy, published by CUP. • Roald Dahl “Tales of the Unexpected”. (One of these must be presented at the oral exam) • English Vocabulary in Use by Stuart Redman Second Edition CUP (Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate level) • English Grammar in Use Supplementary Exercises by Louise Hashemi CUP (for self-study)

  5. BOOKS YOU MUST BUY: • For second year students: • Longman Avanced Learner’s Grammar • Short stories Reading Classics published by Blackcat (4 must be presented for the oral exam).

  7. The importance of self-study: You will be spending 20 weeks in the classroom but 32 weeks out of the classroom so self-study is of the utmost importance. Here are some things you can do to study alone: • study all the grammar points in the book not covered in class • Use such sites as BBC Learning English to improve your language skills • Access newspapers on line to practise reading newspaper articles (especially the second year students) such as the Guardian, the Times, the Independent, the Economist and so on. • Access EFL websites such as Dave’s ESL Café, English-zone and Learn English to practise a variety of aspects • Use the self-access material at the faculty and the CLA
