  1. Hydropower Antonio S. Feb.16,2011 Block 1.1

  2. Introduction Hydropower is when a dam is built and a turbine system is put inside the dam. The turbine spins around the water creating electricity The turbine system in a dam Fig3.jpg, ornl.gov

  3. Renewable or not Hydropower is renewable because water is everywhere as long as it rains and the sun shines, it is a renewable energy source.

  4. Location Hydropower is everywhere. Dams are built in large rivers and waterfalls. Water is covering more than half the world. 5. How to capture Hydropower energy Rivers with a heavy flow can be harnessed for hydroelectricity. When water flows past a dam, a turbine installed moves by the moving water. When the turbine moves it creates hydroelectricity. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://geology.utah.gov/sep/renewable_energy/images/hydrodam.jpg&imgrefurl=http://geology.utah.gov/sep/renewable_energy/hydro.htm&usg=__GuRhSjBkGefVUYqCMrRpvTtgdtY=&h=167&w=250&sz=15&hl=en&start=25&zoom=1&tbnid=e7qYmDJYJJT07M:&tbnh=133&tbnw=184&ei=m3liTaLFCcnOgAf-s-mPAg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsite:gov%2Bcapturing%2Bhydropower%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DG%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D873%26bih%3D580%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=161&vpy=271&dur=1622&hovh=133&hovw=200&tx=105&ty=152&oei=fXliTeKuBMWblgfY2dnlCw&page=3&ndsp=12&ved=1t:429,r:8,s:25 Another dam

  6. How is Hydropower used Hydropower and dams can be used for stopping floods, irrigation, and a lot of clean electricity.

  7. Environmental Impact When hydropower uses dams and can make an impact on the environment. It can disrupt the life cycle of fish. Reservoirs releasing water back into a riverbed can get colder. Dams can also take away the flow of nutrients, starving the animals downstream.

  8. Advantages and Disadvantages Disadvantages: dams are expensive to build, building a large dam will flood a very large area upstream causing problems for animals that used to live there. Advantages:Fish ladders are being installed in dams for fish to climb up the dam,no waste or pollution is produced, much more reliable than wind, solar, or wave power, and electricity can be generated constantly.
