Vacuous (adj.): • Having or showing a lack of thought or intelligence; mindless • Kyle acted quite vacuous when he pulled out his cheat sheet for the test in front of the teacher.
REPRESS(V.): • Subdue (someone or something) by force • The prison guardian repressed the criminal trying to escape through the window.
PERMEATE (v.): • Spread throughout (something); pervade • I could feel the poison permeate my veins, drawing me closer to death.
Illegitimate (adj.): • Not authorized by the law; not in accordance with accepted standards or rules • Your jacket is illegitimate, please take it off or I will have to send you home.
Emigrating (v.): • Leaving one’s own country in order to settle permanently in another • Miguel emigrated to America to find a job so he could send money to his family in Mexico.
Oppression (N.): • Prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control • Oppression from the King has taken both my sons’ lives and cost me my livelihood.
Conscience (n.): • An inner feeling or voice viewed as acting as a guide to the rightness or wrongness of one’s behavior • My conscience is telling me to buy my friend a sandwich, even though he is a freeloader and has his own money to spend.
Incontinent (adj.): • Having no or insufficient voluntary control over urination or defecation. • The old lady was very kind and a little incontinent.
Communist (n.): • A person who supports or believes in the principles of communism • Joseph Stalin was a well-known communist for Russia in World War II.
Unscathed (adj.): • Without suffering any injury, damage, or harm • Someone ran their car into the gas station; luckily, everyone came out unscathed.
