  2. Catholics believe that at the Last Supper, what jesusgave to his disciples really was his body and blood, and he asks us today, to eat it as well. This real body and blood of Jesus is called the eucharist(thanksgiving), or the Real Presence: because the bread/ wine is Jesus REALLY present. What is the eucharist? What does it mean? What is the Real Presence? What does it mean? What do Catholics believe about the bread and the wine? **What do you think about what the Eucharist really is? Why?

  3. How do you think this happens? How does the bread and wine become Jesus’ body and blood??

  4. During the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the priest prays over the bread and wine. He asks God that by the power of the Holy Spirit, he bread and wine may become for us the body and blood of Christ. Just like the Holy Spirit came over Mary, and made Jesus into flesh in Mary’s womb – so at mass Jesus is made present in his flesh, in the bread and wine. This is called trans-substantiation (a change in substance. You can’t see the change – bread/ wine still look like bread/ wine, but really they are Jesus body/ blood. Draw 3 boxes to show Mary, the holy spirit over Mary, and Jesus in Mary’s womb. Call it “INCARNATION” Draw another 3 boxes to show the priest with the bread & wine, the Holy Spirit over the bread & wine, and Jesus in the bread & wine. Call it “TRANSUBSTANTIATION”. Write a definition of what trans-substantiation means. ***What else can you think of that “changes substance” (from something to something else) but you can’t see the change?
