Train the trainers A Project of BIZAR A taskforce of the regional commissioners and the national training team 6th European Forum on Youth Programme and Adult Resources Óbidos, March 09
How it all began… • In 2003 the training scheme was evaluated • The result of the evaluation suggested to settle the “train the trainers” scheme on the three cornerstones • Learning on an individual base • Practicing and performing the trainer role • Learning on seminaries • Fall 2004: The BIZAR decided to re-invent the training scheme. In the following years the new scheme was designed and implemented. • Fall 2007: start with 30 participants • Fall 2008: another 10 participants
Renewal Process Design • Evaluation Decision • „Tabula rasa“ finding a Vision • Agree upon an Aim • Define Contents, objectives and learning targets • Design a supportive framework • Materials, seminar concepts, marketing • E-Learning platform, tutors • Information campaign, reaching all stakeholders • Roll Out - Pilot phase • Ongoing evaluation and fine tuning • Final implementation (“freeze”)
AIM: Train the trainers The „train the trainers“ training scheme of the PPÖ increases professional, methodical and social skills, which qualify the trainer as an instructor for adults. The training provides an adequate theoretical base, extensive practical experience and professional guidance (coaching).
Train the trainers +Adults in Scouting (AIS) individual self paced learning communication training on the job feedback creating an ePortfolio coaching - mentoring
Train the trainers + AIS • A mutual agreement – contract at the beginning • A committed duration – clear milestones • Clarity about goals and methods • The practice is mentored by experienced trainers – feedback to participants • Individual learning is flexible and oriented on the needs and demands of the trainees • The access to information is easy • Face to Face learning on the seminaries increases the competence (Training on the job)
Schedule • The scheme consists of 12 sections; up to 6 sections at once • The participants are responsible for their pace • Individual progress monitoring • It takes at least 2 years to finish the training.
Experience up to now • Overall assessment: the new training scheme works properly and earns a broad support within the PPÖ • Significant rise in quality of seminars • Highly motivated trainees • Familiarity with e-Learning needs time and ubiquitous efforts • Still some space for re-optimization (communication, e-Learning, materials provided)
