What is an EPortfolio? • An EPortfolio is a web-based information management system that uses electronic media and technology services. • The learner builds and maintains a digital repository of writing samples, which they can use to demonstrate competence and reflect on their learning over time. • Subject specific – Target: English - writing

English Writing EPortfolio • Assist you on focusing on your own writing progress and process • Enable assessment of your work as a writer – includes your own self-assessment • Evaluate your level of preparedness to continue in more advanced levels of writing as you continue your education • Determine what additional support you may need as a writer

  4. OBJECTIVES What Are the Goals for Your Learning? A student who successfully completes the Writing E-Portfolio demonstrates the ability to: • Develop a clear sense of the writing processes required for different assignments, such as research reports, poetry, journal entries, oral presentations, essays • Be able to write analytically and authentically on your own writing process • Track the progress of your own development as a writer over four years • Take responsibility for own learning

Student EPortfolio: Process • Collection: What Content Do I Include? • student writing samples during your freshman year • Selection: How do I choose? • You make decisions on how best to present yourself • Reflection: Self-Assessment as a writer • You provide reflective writing that helps you and your readers better understand your writing process and how the portfolio was developed.

  6. Student EPortfolio: Product • The learner builds and maintains a digital inventory of writing samples, which you can use to demonstrate competence and reflect on your own learning and development as a writer over time.

  7. Student EPortfolio: Contents • Homepage – welcome to your site • Reflection page (as a writer – writing process) • Academic Writing Samples/Entries • Five minimum • Writing Resource page ( Five minimum)

HomePage • Student name (title, your name, school year, school name) • A quote important to you. • Welcome message – explaining the purpose of EPortfolio; a paragraph about yourself. • Write a unifying paragraph or two that links the various portfolio entries.   9. Reflection Page • Personal Writing Process • Reflect on how you write – do you write better under certain conditions; how about the writing tool, do prefer a writing genre over another?

Academic Writing Page • Requirements - Contents • Five (one from each quarter) • The Odyssey (oral presentation), one of the written assignments • Journal entry , Vocabulary extended response, sonnet and paraphrase, monologue and analysis. • Comparison Essay and multi-media presentation • Research report

Academic Writing: Self-Assesment 1- 2 paragraphs describing the writing entry Writing is clear, focused, coherent, organized, and relevant; student applies the 6 Writing Traits. • What was the assignment? (identify the requirements) • What makes this your best (second best) work? • How did you go about writing it? • What problems did you encounter? • How did you solve them? • What goals did you set for yourself? • How did you go about accomplishing them?
