Multi- genre Project • What is a genre? A genre is a type of writing. A poem is a genre. A traditional research paper is a genre. A newspaper editorial is a genre. So are plays and diaries and cartoons and billboards. • What is a Multi- genre project? It's a collection of pieces written in a variety of genres, informed by your research on a particular subject, that presents one or (more likely) more perspectives on a research question or topic. A multi-genre paper is personal, creative, and can’t be copied from some other source. It involves you, as a writer, making conscious decisions about what information is important and how it should be presented to the reader.
Multi- Genre Project • What is a repetend? Repetend is something added to your multi-genre project that repeats or continues. The purpose of repetend is to create unity among the various genre pieces and to give the writer an editorial voice that the reader can easily relate to.

The Headache of buying a car. A Lesson in Patience. By Laurie Olson
Exploratory Paper Multi-genre writing Laurie Olson Professor Gray 11- 10-11 The Headache of buying a car. I never thought I would be spending the week before my big test searching for and buying a car for my daughter. That is exactly what I am finding myself doing this week with my nonexistent free time. I am looking hard for a good reliable, low mileage, low priced vehicle. That is why I have decided to write about the process of buying a used car and its effect on myself and my family. Maybe by sharing my experience I will be able to help you and other prospective car buyers out there ease their headache. I will explore the car buying process with a look at the conversations that have taken place between my daughter and I. I forgot to mention I am looking at cars here while she is in Springfield, thus adding stress to this process. I also believe her old car needs a proper departure from this earth, so you will get to see the obituary we wrote so it would be known just how much it will be missed. I have looked at many advertisements and ads for new cars this week that my head is starting to spin. (I will be sharing a few of my favorites.) Did you know there specific steps to buying a car? I didn’t until now. It is recommended you follow these steps to ensure you get a good car for your money. Now that I know all this I will share my new wealth of information with you. • By the time all is said and done I hope to be able to show you happy smiling faces with a brand new, dependable, low mileage used car. I will be so happy when this process is done I believe I will have to share my joy through poetry. I will also be delivering this new car to my daughter with a heartfelt letter telling her that this will be the last car I will purchase for her. • Buying a car is something most people have to experience in life and going about it the correct way will make a big difference in the outcome. I for one like shopping for cars about as much as I like going to the dentist, so anything to make it a more enjoyable experience I am all for.

Dear Friend, I hope you will find some laughter while reading about my adventure in buying my daughter a new car. It was a very long process and I am glad it is behind me. It was not an easy task trying to find just the right car for her, especially since she lives in another town, but we did it. This is just a glimpse into my adventure and the outcome. I hope through our adventure you will gain some insight to the process of buying a car. I choose this topic for the simple fact it was an experience I was having at the time of this writing. I t just seemed like a logical thing to write about. I also found that through this process you can find humor in almost any situation. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Enjoy Laurie

Obituaries November 4th 2011 The Blue Buggie left this world on 11-4-11 to a better place. She decided it was time to hang up the keys in the parking lot of Dillon’s Grocery Store, Springfield Missouri. She apparently died of a blown head gasket and a cracked block. She will be greatly missed by all who was fortunate enough to drive her. We will hold strong to the memories of riding around town on a cool spring day with the top down. She brought us lots of joy. She will live on though in other cars that are fortunate enough to receive a part from her. You see she had a wish, the wish to be a donor car to those in need. Her final resting place will be Bayless Salvage Yard, Springfield Missouri. Any contributions may be made to the Amber car fund in care of Laurie Olson SMB bank. Rest in Peace Blue Buggie.

My Dearest Amber, This last week has sure been a tough one. I know you did not mean to blow up your car, but it has sure caused uproar in our family. I don’t know about you, but I am sure glad this whole car buying process is over. There have been a few tense moments between you and grandpa over what kind of car to buy and how much money to spend. I really hope you like the one we bought you. I know we had a little bit of buyer’s remorse right after we bought the Jimmy and Dave looked at it. But even with the things we had to fix and the added cost, I believe you now own a good reliable car. I know this car ownership thing is new to you and you were a little frustrated with me in the fact that I made you put everything in your name for the first time, but I am proud of you for taking on the responsibility. You are now a grown up. I wish you many happy years with your new GMC Jimmy. I love you. Love, Mom

Conclusion In conclusion there are so many things to look at and for when buying a car. I had never really thought about the car buying process before as my father and my ex-husband had always done the work of finding them for me. All I had to do was say if I liked it or not. This time around I was right in there doing the looking, the financing and the purchasing of this new vehicle. I must admit buying a car is very exhausting. I am so glad it only happens every few years. I don’t know if I could do it if it was more frequent. It was really nice to be able to come home from a day of car shopping a relieve some of the stress through this project. I did experience some road bumps along the way, but being able to go back and fix them made a huge difference. I got a lot out of this project. I thought it was a fun project even though it was time consuming. I loved putting the different pieces together to create the final project. This is definitely a project I want to do with my students.
