Disadvantages • Problems with access • Test security, confidentiality • Less control over testing conditions • Open book, open notes (therefore how much does the student really know or are they scrambling to find the information during the testing times) • Additional assistance needed?
Disadvantages • Timing– limits, penalty for going over • Disconnects during the test, internet congestion • User tech skill disparity • Not suitable for testing certain skills • Most suitable for objective questions • Development costs –requires regular updating & a large test bank
Disadvantages • Scoring can be quite rigid • Fairness- student training required • No personal feedback • Requires a contingency plan

If you decide to use online quizzing as part of the evaluation process ensure that it is only one of many evaluation components.
On the other hand… If you decide to use online quizzing as part of the learning process provide as many possibilities and as much variety as possible.

Conclusion Online quizzing can be used effectively as an integral part of the learning process. If you wish to use it as part of the evaluation process it is critical to address the many areas which may disadvantage students or interfere with an accurate assessment of student learning.
