  2. Learning Outcomes In today’s workshop we will learn how to: • Create a RefWorks account • Access RefWorks on and off campus • Explore RefWorks • Create folders and Import references • Generate a bibliography in multiple citation style formats

  3. What is ? ? • RefWorks is a web-based application tool that allows you to create and organize citations and generate a list of bibliographic references in a number of different citation styles.

  4. Accessing your RefWorks Account StFX Library Website http://library.stfx.ca

  5. Creating a New RefWorks Account Sign up for an individual account Fill out the registration form Select “Create Account” RefWorks will confirm your registration with an instant email. You are ready to log in to your new RefWorks account!

  6. Logging in to RefWorks On Campus: Login using your username and password

  7. Logging in to RefWorks Off Campus: The Group Code for StFX is RWStFrXaU. Proceed by logging in with your username and password.

  8. When RefWorks opens, it will open All References in your account.

  9. Exploring RefWorks Have fun! Get to know this tool

  10. Creating Folders Folders provide an excellent way to organize your references. Select the New Folder button under the RefWorks header Enter a new folder name and select Create.

  11. Importing References from a database • Open RefWorks. • Go to the Angus L. Macdonald library website: http://library.stfx.ca • Select a database to search. • Complete your search. • Select the articles you want to export to RefWorks • Select the RefWorks button

  12. Importing References from a database • Select “Export to RefWorks” • An import page will open and confirm that your references have been imported. • Select “View Last Imported Folder” to view these references

  13. Importing References from Google Scholar • Go to Google Scholar: http://scholar.google.com/ • In the upper right hand corner, click on the icon. • Select “Scholar Preferences” from the drop down menu.

  14. Importing References from Google Scholar • Scroll down the page to the “Bibliographer Manager” • Select “RefWorks from the drop-down menu • Save Preferences!

  15. Importing References from Google Scholar • Google Scholar will now provide you with an option to import selected references directly into RefWorks.

  18. Adding References Manually Select your citation style Fill in the required fields

  19. Creating a Bibliography with RefWorks Select the citation style for your paper Select: Format a Bibliography from a list of References
