  1. Warm up 11/18/13 • Question: Which element has 4 full shells of electrons? • Answer: • Elements in row 4 have 4 shells. Elements in group 18 have full shells… • Krypton! • Goal: I will explore the organization of the periodic table.

ELEMENT OF THE DAY • 32 – Germanium – Ge • The only stable element named after a country (Germany), was an element undiscovered, but predicted when the first periodic table was created. • Germanium was used in the first diodes and transistors because it still works with lower purity levels, unlike silicon, which is used today. • Used today is fiber and infrared optics.
