  2. Definition- Industry • A). Systematic labor especially for some useful purpose or the creation of something of value • B). A department or branch of craft, art, business, or manufacturing; especially one that employs a large personnel ad capital especially in manufacturing. • C). A distinct group of productive or profit-making enterprises. • D). Manufacturing activities as a whole.

  5. Industry at the time • Britain had longstanding industry • Samuel Slater worked as a mill supervisor in Britain, and then moved to America in 1789 after memorizing the plans. • Builds first water-powered cotton-spinning mill in Rhode Island. This starts the industrial revolution in America.
