Learning a skill you enjoy enables you to maintain an active lifestyle. • Knowing the level of your skill-related fitness can help you select a sport or lifetime activity best suited to your skills. • Sports participation helps students achieve social wellness.
Understanding the Skill-related Components of Physical Fitness • AGILITY= The ability to start, stop, and move the body quickly and in different directions. • Examples: Soccer, Racquetball, Basketball, and Tennis require changing directions while maintaining body control.
Understanding the Skill-related Components of Physical Fitness • BALANCE= A kind of coordination which allows you to maintain control of your body while stationary or moving. • Examples: Skiing, gymnastics, skating, dance, and surfing require a high level of balance.

Specific Training • It is important to identify the specific skill-related components which will contribute to successful performance of the sport and then train to improve these components. • Example: To improve agility, reaction time, and speed to play tennis, practice footwork drills without hitting a ball.
