General tips: text amount & format • Leave 20% white space. • Write in shorter paragraphs. • 7 10 words per line (!) • Avoid heavy lines. • Avoid least read – bottom left. • Use most read – bottom right.

Choose your fonts with care • Text: use serif fonts (good for print media): • Palatino • Times • Courier • Headers: sans-serif OK • Geneva • Arial • Helvetica Or: use SMALL CAPS
Readability guidelines • DO use 12-point font • DO use ragged right justification • DON’T use sentence constructions that cause reading twice, like / and ( ) • DON’T leave out articles like “the” or “a” • DON’T use lots & lots of bullets
Use parallel structure • Conceptually parallel – use the same classification • Functions vs. tasks vs. sub-tasks • I, II, III vs. A, B, C vsi, ii, iii • Grammatically parallel – use the same verb form • use, list, describe • using, listing, describing • uses, lists, describes Other types of parallel structure or grammatical consistency?
Acronyms & Abbreviations • Avoid overusing acronyms • Use acronyms correctly • Spell out the first time with acronym in parentheses • Don't use Latin abbreviations in text, but OK in citations • etc., i.e., e.g., vs., et al. TV TIES TPRC COE CRDG LVM DPC DOE HOTE CET
5. Proofread & proofread • Proofread multiple times, checking 1 element each time for consistency & accuracy: • Font size • Verb forms (parallel structure) • Punctuation • Capitalization • Ask 2 friends to proofread your CV
