HIGH PERFORMANCE • 905 District Academic Performance Index - 800 state target (All EUSD schools higher) - 1000 perfect score • All schools are California Distinguished Schools – OPE, ECC recognized again! • Multiple awards and honors for programs
CHALLENGES FACING EUSD • Need to develop new models and designs for 21st Century teaching and learning • Aging Facilities and Infrastructure • Outdated Technology • Budget Issues ($6 M budget cut)
Solution – Proposition P • Facility bond extension • Funds must be spent locally and cannot be taken away by the State • Can be used for capital facility and technology projects only • Can’t be used to pay for teacher or administrative salaries • Money saved through energy efficiency can be used to directly support classrooms

SPECIFIC SITE FACILITY NEEDS • Each site has specific list compiled from 5-year facility needs plan and Board walk-through facility needs list. • Proposition P would: • Repair and replace leaky roofs • Replace deteriorating plumbing systems • Upgrade outdated and inadequate electrical systems • Modernize classrooms, restrooms, and facilities • Replace old heating and ventilation systems

ENERGY EFFICIENCY GOALS • Reduce energy and water use at all campuses • Upgrade plumbing, windows, heating, and air conditioning for greater efficiency • Save general fund dollars that can be used to support classrooms
GREEN INITIATIVE PROJECTS • Solar panels at 7 schools • Solar tubes and natural lighting • Reclaimed water for irrigation • Waterless urinals • Upgrade heating and air conditioning • System wide usage monitoring
ENERGY SAVINGS • District currently spends approximately $1 million on electricity and $200,000 on water use every year. • Solar panels and more efficient heating and air conditioning will cut total energy costs by at least 60%. • Reclaimed water should cut water use by 50% • Total annual savings to District = $700,000 Can be used to keep class sizes small!
CONFIGURATION OF K-2 CLASSROOM All K-2nd grade classrooms will consist of the following tools for teaching and learning: • Teacher computing station • Printer • Document camera • LCD projector • Projection screen • Interactive white board • Learning software • Classroom computer lab
CONFIGURATION OF 3-6 CLASSROOM All 3rd – 6th grade classrooms will consist of the following tools for teaching and learning: • Teacher computing station • Printer • Document camera • LCD projector • Projection screen • One computer for every student • Learning software
COMPUTERS / TECHNOLOGY • Replace/upgrade technology infrastructure • Funds set aside for technology endowment refresh (5 -7 year replace / repair) • Allows for new technology upgrades • Software changes • Not one-time focus • Gives district time to acquire additional funding for long-term technology planning
CENTER DESCRIPTION • Multi-purpose facility Media presentation room Design work areas Labs Broadcasting studio • Access to community learning facilities • Designed to be used by all students and staff
Proposition P Details • Bond extension similar to 1996 election • Rate stays same for taxpayers • On November, 2010 ballot • Requires 55% approval for passage • High level of community support for schools and projects on facility list • Would save district general fund dollars • Would give students access to state-of-art classrooms and technology
OTHER FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES • With the passage of Proposition P, EUSD may also be eligible for: - Solar installation rebates - Joint use grants for Technology Center - State construction matching funds • Proposition P – on the November ballot!
