ShepardFairey Project *Choose a Hero or Icon *Using many of the methods used by ShepardFairey, create a portrait of that person
You must include • Collage of various images/clippings • Paint • Repetition of form/shape • High Contrast image of hero/icon • A color palette consisting of only 3 colors • Be creative and think outside the box • Your success/grade will be based on how well you incorporate all of these elements, craftsmanship and THE POWER OF THE IMAGE!!!
ShepardFairey • Considered a graffiti /street artist. Uses street sensibilities and could be considered a modern day POP artist. • Main materials are paper, wheat paste, stencils and paint. • His focus is predominantly political, but incorporates popular imagery into a lot of his work. He became notorious for his propaganda art, and the brand “OBEY”
The idea was simply about the power of the image….Created as an experiment about the phenomenon of imagery and how society reacts to particular images , Fairey created a whole “brand” of art that started with bumper stickers and grew to a whole art movement. • Much Like the image “Kilroy was Here” during the WWII era.
Major influences to work • Pop Art
Steps • Find an image of a hero/ create an image of a hero. Have it ready for class tomorrow. • Searching through magazines, newspapers, internet, etc… find text that is relevant to your person. • Decide upon other images/patterns that your would like to use(I would suggest between 3 and 5) • Begin developing and layering your images. • Use 3 colors to enhance the image
Keys to success • Repetition • Pattern • Attention to detail/craftsmanship • Relevance • Power of THE IMAGE!!!
