  1. Notebook Set Up—2ndQtr Small notebook checks will count as homework grades. These will be sneak attacks. Big checks will be small test grades I will tell you the big grade ahead of time. Keeping all of your papers organized will help your test grades.

  2. Rule 1 • Be organized. • 3 dividers • Notes • Vocab • Homework

  3. Notes • Current notes (Reformation)—Number pages • Plus at least 5 more sheets of blank paper. • You may continue notes on the same sheet of paper. Always skip at least two lines in-between days and PUT THE NEW DATE. • Notebook check pop test? • 5 blank sheets!! • Legible • neat • Dates • In class

  4. To Cornell or not to CornellThat is the question… • Cornell notes are GREAT!!! • But not the only answer. • You must learn to take “big picture” notes—not every word. • Review notes each day. • Clarify, define, respell, refresh your memory. • The highlighter is your friend.

  5. Here’s the deal… • If “your system is working”… • You have all your notes • And your grades are good • You may continue with the note system you use. • If you are lacking in your ability to take notes from which you can study, I’m going to step in with suggestions. • If that doesn’t work, it’s my way or the highway (to your parents….)

  6. And know your parents’ contact numbers

  7. If you miss notes, • You can get them from a classmate OR • They will now be on my website or the common drive. http://ready.lhs.idso.eportalnow.net/ K: Student commom>Ready> world history> topic.

  8. Vocabulary • Current vocab assignments + 5 sheets of paper. • Name on top of each paper. • The lists from different chapters may continue on the same page. • Skip at least two lines between assignments • Chapter and page # at the beginning of each new assignment • Word, definition • The words on this “running dictionary” will be on the final

  9. Assignments • Includes my handouts • Keep a “table of contents” at the front of the section • All papers should be organized and neat • Name and date on all papers • Name of assignment on each paper • All papers should be “connected in”—if the holes are torn, fix them. • NO extreme messy papers—redo them • Chunks torn off • Wadded and crinkled • Chocolate all over them

  10. Rule 2—Bring it to class • Your notebooks come every day to class… • No exceptions—it will be a grade for the day Rule 3—It may be decorated to your taste • Within reason. • You can figure that out—if not ask. • If you wouldn’t want your grandmother to see it, don’t do it!

  11. Organization is a SKILL we all can benefit fromIt is good for you… • If you ARE organized, we’ll keep working on it. • If NOT, we’ll get you organized and keep working on it. • Remember, 4 million of you will be graduating at the same time to join a work force where a BUNCH of people are already looking for jobs. • What do YOU have to offer that the next person doesn’t?
