  1. Vocabulary Journal By: Vanessa Dominguez

  2. Clairvoyant -having the power of seeing or knowing things that are out of sight. -Amanda wants to know how to be clairvoyant.

  3. amateur -one who engages in an art, science, study, or athletic activity as a past time, not as a profession. -Becky was an amateur at painting.

  4. stocky -solidly built, plump and chubby. -When we checked out our books at the library, a stocky old man was helping us out.

  5. scowl -to wrinkle or contract brow in order to show disapproval. -My mother scowled at me when I didn’t call after being home three hours late.

  6. preening -to take pride or satisfaction. -I felt like preening when I won first place at the dance competition.

  7. leisurely -unhurried. -We leisurely walked through the beautiful park.

  8. repressed -to hold back by an act of will. -They were repressed as they tried to escape the horrendous stampede.

  9. justify -to show or prove to right. -I justified what really happened at the robbery last night.

  10. insufferable. -intolerable. -The screeching sounds of nails on a chalk board are insufferable.

  11. tangible -real, actual. -There wasn’t enough tangible evidence to send the accused man into jail.

  12. eludes -remain undiscovered or unexplained. -It difficult answer eluded me .

  13. sufficient -as much as is needed. -The tiny jar had a sufficient amount of jam for me.

  14. stupor -a dazed condition, loss of feel. -She was in an embarrassing stupor.

  15. Mundane -characteristic of or concerned with the ordinary. -Lauren couldn't endure the mundane world of living in Japan.

  16. Constrained -restrained -We were constrained when the ride workers at the fair closed the gate.

  17. Favorite Book: Jade Green This book is a ghost story and it makes you want to keep reading! I anticipated what was next every step of the way!

  18. Favorite Author: Phyllis Reynolds Naylor I love this author because she wrote Jade Green and I absolutely love that book!!!!

  19. Worst Book: Murdered, My Sweet. I couldn’t stand this book! It took a bazillion years to get to the interesting and fun parts to read!!!! It was a snore!
