  1. YWCA-YMCA & Ottawa D-STAR Rick Bandla VE3CVG

  2. The Y Gives to the Community • 1 in 5 children and 1 in 8 seniors live below the poverty line in Ottawa • The Y provides: housing, crisis counseling, employment, entrpreneurship, camping, child care, health training, fitness & recreation • In 2009, charitable donations to the Y totaled $625K, but Y provided >$1.6M in financial assistance and forgiven fees. • Obviously the trend cannot continue

  3. Our Radio Room Space • Three factors impact space availability: • Security since 9/11 • Cost recovery policy in recent years • Growing # of RF systems (cellular, private) • The YWCA-YMCA has provided us with: • Radio room that is heated, powered, lit • Roof access for antennas with minimal restrictions • Indoor parking when required during construction • Internet feed (not suitable for D-STAR) • 24/7 controlled access

  4. More About our Environment • We do our own work • Dale VE3XZT has provided certified electrical work like powering, grounding • Dale has been key in all antenna work • Assisted by several hams • We provide and use our own furniture • We try not to bother the Y any more than necessary • Administrative interface is Rick (VE3CVG)

  5. What the Y Wants in Return • They help us because they recognize that we provide a service to the community • They ask that we encourage people to donate to the Y to help them help the community • In 2009, we donated $100 to the Y to help pay for power • We will try to donate $100 this year • Please think of them and the work they do and help if you can through donations
