Who is Crotus? • Crotus is part of Greek mythology. He was a creature known as a satyr. A satyr is a creature with a human head and torso, with goat legs and sometimes horns.
Background of Crotus • Crotus was the son of Pan and Eupheme. Crotus refers to the myth of the Sagittarius. Crotus was a satyr that lived on Mount Helicon with the Muses. He was a skilled musician and hunter and according to Greek mythology, invented the bow. Usually, satyrs are known to be lustful, wild, rowdy creatures that have very little respect for authority and proper manners. Crotus was an exception to this because he was gifted in the arts and sciences and were polite to humans.
Claim to Fame • Crotus gained his fame for his diligence because he was swift in the woods and clever in arts. As an award, Zeus was asked to put him with some star group. Since Zeus wanted to show all of the skills of Crotus in one body, he gave him horse flanks to show he rode a great deal and added an arrow to show his keenness and swiftness.
Downfall of Crotus • Crotus does not have a downfall. When it was time for him to die, Zeus did him a favor and placed him among the stars.
Tales of Crotus • Crotus is in the book Sagittarius Rising.
