  4. AGRICULTURE AT A GLANCE • Net Cultivated Area : 2,80,000 Hectare • Gross Cultivated Area : 4,90,000 Hectare • Cropping Intensity :176% • Mono cropped Area : 1,07,000 Hectare • Double cropped Area : 1,36,000 Hectare • Triple cropped Area : 37,000 Hectare

  5. AGRICULTURE ATA GLANCE Irrigable Area : 1,17,000 Hectare Present Area under Assured Irrigation : 72,284 Hect. a) Govt. Source : 46,746 Hect. b)Private Source: 25,538 Hect. Fertilizer Consumption : 36 kg / hect Per capita land Availability :0.97 hect.

  6. FARMERS OF TRIPURA Total Farmer : 3,18,212 Nos Marginal Farmer : 2,16,626 (68%) (Below 1.0 Hec) Small Farmers : 69,217 (22%) (1.0 to 2.0 Hec) Medium & Large Farmers : 32,169 (10%)

  7. AREA OPERATION • Marginal & small Farmers constitute 90% of Farming community but operates only 62% of total operation area. • Big farmers constitute 10% of the farming community but operates 38% area.

  8. ISSUES FOR ATTENTION OF G.O.I • Availability of Fund and subsidy for improvement of small and marginal Farmers. • Fund for Farmers Training, Crop Diversification and adoption of new Technologies • Inclusion of Tripura Under ISOPOM • Improvement of Shifting Agriculture (JHUM)

  9. ISSUES FOR ATTENTION OF G.O.I. • AVAILABILITY OF AGRI-INPUT Seeds and Fertilizers • AVAILABILITY OF AGRI-IMPLEMENTS Improved farm implements Post harvest / processing implements

  10. SEED • Increase of financial assistance for Seed Replacement of Cereals, Pulses and Oil Seeds. • Financial assistance for Introduction of New Variety of Pulses and Oilseeds (Hybrid & HYV) • Financial assistance for popularization of Hybrid Paddy cultivation.

  11. FERTILIZER • Allocation of Controlled Fertilizer. • Availability of Decontrolled fertilizer. • Buffer Stock • Special area Transport Subsidy for Tripura – Agartala to District HQ.

MAJOR CONSTRAINTS IN ACHIEVING TARGET • Deferment of Rainfall • Non-availability of Fertilizer in required quantity in time • Low Net economic return in pulses and oil seeds • Post harvest/processing technologies • Market infrastructure and price support • Imbalance use of Fertilizer • Non-Availability of recently released high potential HYV of Wheat, Maize, Pulses and Oil Seeds.

STRATEGIES FOR RABI ’04-’05 • Availability of Fertilizer • Availability of Quality Seeds • Availability of recent HYV for Wheat, Pulses and Oil Seeds • Integrated Nutrient Management • Efficient water management • Use of marginal irrigated lands for oil seed cultivation • Efficient extension support.

  24. NEW INITIATIVES • Production of Hybrid Paddy seed in the Farmers field • Constitution Seed Certification Agency • Establishment of Seed Processing Plant Research Programme of Shifting of Agriculture(Jhum) System Research on System of Rice Intensification (SRI)
