Update on Global HIV Statistics Revealed in Press Conference

A press conference disclosed the latest HIV data: 39.5 million affected, 2.9 million AIDS-related deaths, 4.3 million new infections, with most cases in Sub-Saharan Africa. Surprisingly, a 50% rise in infections was noted in Eastern Europe and Central Asia since 2004. The 2006 statistics paint a grim picture of the ongoing battle against HIV.
