Shelter Funding • establishment of a fund to be managed by Shelter Centre but guided by the Shelter Meeting and following DFID Conflict and Humanitarian Fund protocols • there will be 6 meetings over 3 years, each with a budget • we will: • identify proposals • prioritise the projects • agree who is to undertake the work • identify other revenue streams for Shelter Funding, or for specific projects tangible impact: improved capacity, engagement of donors, advocacy, sustainability opportunities 2006 2007 2008

Shelter Funding previous proposals 2.1 ‘Translation of the transitional settlement guidelines into other languages’ 2.2‘A publicly-available on-line library on reconstruction issues, … case-study mission reports, contributed by the Shelter Meeting participants …. Field assessment tools should also be included,aswell as country specific lessons learned.’ 2.3‘A training programme for decision makers and government officials’ 2.4‘A toolkit and procurement manual for wood, and later other materials’ 2.5 ‘An independent study should be rapidly made of impregnated plastic sheeting, concentrating upon safety, effectiveness, appropriateness, and cost’ 2.6‘Guidelines on the use of plastic sheeting should be updated and made freely available (ref Howard and Spice, Oxfam GB, 1979) ’ 2.7‘Preliminary review of existing NFIs guidelines, prior to final decision on guidelines on the use of plastic sheeting including other shelter NFIs, such as shadow netting, blankets, and stoves’ guidelines for the submission of proposals for funding will be circulated by the end of January 2006 to elicit first proposals to be discussed at SM06a

Shelter Training • the development of training capacity for the sector • 3.1 the development and expansion of www.sheltertraining.org, including training from other organisations • 3.2 the delivery by Shelter Centre of free training at your headquarters, leaving you with a training course developed for the needs of your organisation • 3.3 the delivery by Shelter Centre of free training in some field operations latest: basic GPS training will be developed by Shelter Centre and MapAction for Oxfam GB, which has kindly granted permission to make it freely available on the website 2006 2007 2008 available to train at headquarters or in the field

Shelter Volunteering • volunteer and internship capacity development • 4.1 create a database of potential volunteers for non- operational work • 4.2 link projects undertaken outside the aid community • 4.3 involve experienced professionals as well as graduates • Shelter Meeting organisations should feel free to contact volunteers through the service tangible impact: increased sectoral capacity, advocacy, innovation and learning 2006 2007 2008 prototype operational evaluation revision
