  2. WHEN / WHERE BALBOA WAS BORN • Balboa was born in Spain. • He was born in the year of 1475. • Balboa was headed to be a great Spanish explorer!

  3. WHERE BALBOA EXPLORED • Balboa left to explore America in 1500. • Balboa was in search of a vast ocean. • He also joined in and helped to found the first successful European colony on the main land of the Americans.

  4. HOW HIS LIFE ENDED UP • Balboa married the daughter of Careta, the local Indian Chief. • He and his crew searched for treasures like pearls, gold, silver, and diamonds. • Balboa was found guilty and in front of everyone he was beheaded in Acla in January, 1519.

  5. WHY HE WAS IMPORTANT • When Balboa was an explorer, he had his dog with him. • Balboa was important because he claimed the ocean for Spain, and he started the first settlement for South America.
