Objectives • 3-D cardiac tissue from a monolayer of cardiac cells • 3-D cell cultures contain specifications similar to in vivo: • cell to cell and cell to matrix interactions • composition of interstitial fluid • Three dimensional Cultures of Prostatic Cells
Design Specifications of Rotating Vessel • End over end mixing of the cells • Continuous rotation of the vessel • Max of .2 dyne/cm2 of shear stress • Minimal fluid turbulence • Bubble-free aeration • eliminate hydrodynamic forces • Solid Body Rotation • Suspending the cells in a liquid medium.

Current Work • I am meeting with Dr. Bader who does Cardiology research to learn how to disassociate and cardiac cell growth. • Putting the apparatus together
Future Plan of Action • Calculate the sheer stress applied on cells when rotated • Literature search on a way to bubble-free aeration of cells while they are rotating
