Martin King • Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 16, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He mainly was a hero to the African American community.
Martin’s Attributes • Martin was a civil right activate and a minister. He was part of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Birmingham Protest March, He went to Washington D.C for his famous “I have a dream” speech, the “Sit-in” movement, Freedom riders, and was involved with some issues on the Vietnam war.
Awards • Martin won several awards for his achievements like when he attended college where he won the Plafker Award and the J. Lewis Crozer Fellowship Award. He also won: • Spingarn Medal from NAACP, 1957. • Russwurm Award from the National Newspaper Publishers, 1957. • Second Annual Achievement -- The Guardian Association of the Police Department of New York, 1958. • Link Magazine of New Delhi, India, listed Dr. King as one of the sixteen world leaders who had contributed most to the advancement of freedom during 1959. • Named Man of the Year by Time, 1963. • Named American of the Decade by Laundry, Dry Cleaning, and Die Workers International Union, 1963. • John Dewey Award, from the United Federation of Teachers, 1964. • Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. • Marcus Garvey Prize for Human Rights, by the Jamaican Government. 1968. • Rosa L. Parks Award by the SCLC.
Assassination. • Martin Luther king was assassinated on an outside balcony at the Lorraine Hotel, he was hit by a rifle. At the Memphis hospital at 7:00 PM he was pronounced dead.
