Warm-up Expectations • You can use a regular piece of notebook paper (not ripped out of a spiral, or a journal. • Have your name on the paper or journal • Date each entry • Please keep these neat, without doodles, notes, etc. on them. • Put more than one on a page. • It is ok to use the back of the page.
Today’s warm-up (see board for date) • What are the qualities of a strong essay? • List as many ideas as you can.
Organizing your essay • Look at the organizational handout. • There are two sides. • You only need to complete one of the sides. Pick which format works best for you. • If there is another form that works better for you, like a web, for example, you can also use that. • Fill in the spaces. • Look at the instruction sheet for thesis examples. • Ideas for attention grabbers: story, surprising fact, thought provoking question • If there are gaps or places that need more information, you can as your partner for more information.
After finishing your organizer: • Start drafting your essay. • Don’t forget to write legibly. • Indicate paragraph breaks. • Use your organizer to write your essay.
First writing assignment deadlines • Monday 12th /Tuesday 13th: Outlining and drafting • Wednesday 14th /Thursday 15th : Drafts due, peer revision help and revising • Friday 16th: Finals due to www.turnitin.com
