Progress up todate Six main activities were ongoing in 2006 : • Management of PMU • Stocktaking and gap identification of the three thematic areas • Nationalization of the MDG 7” Ensure Environmental Sustainability” • GEF National steering committee • Synergy and prioritization • BEZRA school Awareness campaign

Management of the PMU • The PMU has been fully functional and operational managing the day to day activities of the NCSA as hiring of consultants, follow up on the delivery of reports, • Participation in GEF national and international events as Alex sub regional consultation, GEF third assembly – Alex Session on GEF M and E • Coordinate GEF ongoing activities and support future projects

Stoktaking and gap identification • Three consultants have been hired for development of reports on the three thematic areas in end of 2005 . • Stocktaking consultation workshop in March 2006 • Panels of advisorsreviewed the reports - ended in July 2006 • Another review of the report was undertaken with the synergy and prioritization phase through three matrices • Reports produced in November 2006

Nationalization of the MDG 7“Ensure Environmental sustainability” • A working group has been formed from seven line ministries (environment, health, housing, agriculture, water, electricity local development and planning) begining of this year . Six meetings for the working had taken place from dec 2005 till may 2006 • A workshop for launching the country specific targets was conducted within the framework of the National sustainable development committee in July 2007 • Final report printed . • Integrated within the global report on follow up on MDG 7 ( UNEP –UNDP) – 15 December 2006 • Minister of environment participated in the opening ceremony with a speech on the exercise and how this is linked to the national efforts of sustainable development

  7. GEF National Steering committee • Evaluation for the GEF ongoing projects ( evaluation sheet -May 2006) • GEF national criteria- 12 principles • GEF national project Design Format • Programming of projects for RAF one biodiversity two project for climate change

Synergies and prioritization phase • Three matrices for review of the capacity constraints (July 2006) • Draft synergies between conventions and prioritized cross cutting issues( October 2006 ) • Consultation workshop for re-review of the constraints and reach consensus on priorities (November) • Final report produced (December 2006)

  9. Awareness raising BEZRA school campaign conducted in three phases FEB – March 2006 May – August 2006 September- December 2006

AWP 2007 includes: 2006 remaining activities: • Review of the synergy and prioritization report through panel of advisors • Resume BEZRA school campaign and produce final evaluation report on the fourth phase. • Continuation of the GEF national steering committee meetings 2007 original AWP activities: • Indepth studies – production of five reports • Development of the Capacity development action plan • Produce NCSA process report • Development of the project proposal for CB2 “mainstreaming global environment in national development plans“

  12. Annual evaluation for the project in Morocco • Technical follow up was conducted for the project in Morocco in June 2006 . • Egypt project was stated as being on advanced stage through trying to address policy environmental issues
