Thank you for your attention!!! Elena Curtopassi elena.curtopassi@regione.veneto.it
Schuman (SCHools of the Union Making A New EUROPE) The aim of the Project: The main objective of the project is to spread and to enhance knowledge about the European Institutions, the Policies, the values. The project intends to involve students (12-14 years old) in activities (round tables and a competition with awards for the best classes) related to European Union. LET THE YOUNGSTERS BE PROTAGONIST OF THE CHANGES !!
The implementation of “Schuman” Description of the project: The Schuman Project in Italy, on its sixth edition, has reached an impressive participation: 85 secondary schools (167 classes) from the whole Veneto Region with an estimated participation of 4.500 students per year. • First phase: Dissemination and TRAINING AID Wide distribution of training aid (provided by the representation of the European Commission in the Country) to schools and classes participating in the project. This material aims at helping professors to “speak about EU” with students in order to prepare them for the second and the third phase of the project.
The implementation of “Schuman” 2 • Second phase: THE ROUND TABLES Round tables are organized inside the schools participating in the project. A round table is a public meeting between students and people working in/with EU (EU officers, experts working in the office based in Brussels of Veneto Region, NGOs, etc). It’s not a “classical” lesson but includes also a role game during which students “play” the role of EU Institutions in the “decision making process” . During the last edition of Schuman project more than 56 round tables took place all over the regional territory. The number of classes participating in round tables varies between 2 and 3.
The implementation of “Schuman” 3 • Third phase: The Competition! During this phase students and teachers are directly involved since they are supposed to elaborate a work in team. The type of work may also vary: it could be a written text, an audio-visual product, an artistic composition, an information product etc.
The implementation of “Schuman” 4 • Fourth phase: The Awards Ceremony It is the closing event of the project. It involves the 12 best classes participating in the competition and it is hosted by the most beautiful theatres or historical buildings of Veneto Region with the participation of important keynote speakers. The first prize is a trip in Brussels for all the class!!
Schuman+ The aim of the Project: The main objective of the project is to promote knowledge of the European Union, continuing in secondary schools of Veneto Region the path initiated by Schuman Project. This Project aims at empowering students and promoting their ability to stimulate personal initiative and independence, encouraging them to develop ideas and opinions and personal criticism.
Schuman+ Description of the project: SCHUMAN + aims to improve the knowledge of European issues, by organizing a competition which is based on writing an essay on a topic concerning the European Union.
Schuman+ The top three students will be awarded with a travel-study abroad for a period of two weeks to be held during the Summer in a location selected by the student to improve their knowledge of a foreign language. The awards are offered by European Commission Representation in Milan.
Summer School in EU Institutions and Policies The “Summer School in EU Institutions and Policies” is an intensive course analyzing in depth the work performed by European Institutions, the European legislative process, providing practical suggestions for Lobbying and the methodologies for European Projects design. Experts and EU Officers will hold lectures on European Policies and Programmes.
