WE ARE AT WAR WITH AN ENEMY! • When one becomes a Christian, his awareness of the enemy is heightened, he is now at war. • Eph. 6:11-12 --- “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” • Vrs 11 tells us he is a scheming kind of being. • 2 Cor 11:3 "But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity {of devotion} to Christ". • Knowing this, Paul tells us not to be ignorant of his schemes. (2 Cor. 2:11) • Eph.6:12 tells us that our enemy is powerful. • We should realize this BUT.. • While he is powerful, he is not ALL powerful • While we should never underestimate him, neither should we overestimate him.

THE DESTRUCTIVE POWER OF OUR ENEMY • MODERN CONCEPTIONS REGARDING HELL • Hell is only for the really bad. • I believe that this is one of the biggest and worst misconceptions regarding hell. • There is no indication that God sees sin in various levels, but rather scripture plainly teaches that sin.... I John 3:4-8, no matter what it is, brings forth death....Rom. 6:23. • Matt. 7:13-14 show that the majority will be lost. • Matt. 7:21-23 many sincere people will be lost. • Rev. 21:8 shows the liars, the unbelieving and the murderers all to together in hell. • Thus the concept of only the really bad are going to hell, is not a scriptural principle but rather one that is of Satan.

THE DESTRUCTIVE POWER OF OUR ENEMY • God is too loving to punish sin. • How would one know that this is true? • Is God not a father to his children and does scripture not say that the "rod spared is to spoil the child"...cf Prov. 13:24. • This is man's tendency to try to reshape God in his own image. • Consider these scriptures...Rom. 11:22 ; Heb. 10:26-31 ; 12:28-29 ; Rev. 6:12-17 ; 14:9-11, 19-20. • By God having to punish those who do not His will does not display a lack of love on God's part but a lack of love on man's part...John 14:15.

THE DESTRUCTIVE POWER OF OUR ENEMY • MODERN CONCEPTIONS REGARDING HELL • I'm experiencing Hell on Earth. • If one thinks this is hell now, then he is sadly mistaken as hell will be eternal while life is only like a vapor... James 4:14 • Hell is an annihilation. • Jehovah Witness and Seventh Day Adventists hold to this position. • The question that one needs to ask the scripture is how long is hell going to be? • Matt. 25:46 says as long as eternal life. • They agree to this point but say the punishment is annihilation. • Again scripture says concerning this matter.... Matt.13:42,50 ; Rom. 2:8-9. • The term "destroy" does not mean "annihilate".---Matt.10:6 ; Lk.5:37 -- loss of well being ; notice that it is not the being that will be lost. • Death means separation --- cf Psa. 116:15. • Ignore it ; live for the present. • I'll not be any worse off than the rest. • I believe that God will change his mind about hell. • What if God does not, what then?

THE DESTRUCTIVE POWER OF OUR ENEMY • THE CERTAINTY OF HELL. • Since we are dealing with evidences, let us concern ourselves with the evidence that God has recorded for us concerning the certainty of Hell. • Jesus taught that there is such a place as Hell....Matt. 5:22 ;29-30; 10:28; 13:41-42; 18:8-9; 22:13; Matt. 25:30; 31-34,41,46; Luke 16:22-24; John 15:6. • The inspired apostles taught that there is a place as Hell. • Paul...Rom.2:6-9; 6:23; II Cor.5:10; Gal. 6:7-8; II Thess. 1:7- 9; Heb.10:28-31. • Peter...I Peter 4:17-18; II Peter 2:4; 3:10. • John...Rev.14:11; 20:12-15; 21-8.

THE DESTRUCTIVE POWER OF OUR ENEMY WHAT SORT OF A PLACE IS HELL? • It is a place of torment, of anguish and of constant pain. • Luke 16:22-24...Here was a man who cried for a drink of water, but there was no water to quench his starving thirst. • If you are living in sin, living for the gratification of the flesh, you are developing in your soul appetites and desires that shall find no gratification whatsoever in that world towards which you are hurrying, and in which you will spend eternity. • It is a place of unutterable and everlasting shame and contempt...Dan.12:2. • In Matt.25:30 Jesus teaches that there will be in hell: • "Darkness" --- hell is utter darkness; it is banishment from heaven, where all is light, to an extreme and eternal darkness....I John 1:5 • "Weeping" --- an expression of wailing, anguish and great sorrow. • "Gnashing of teeth" --- an expression of great rage and indignation.

THE DESTRUCTIVE POWER OF OUR ENEMY • Hell is a place of memory and remorse. • Luke 16:25 ... “Son, remember” • The rich man had not taken with him into the spirit world of the lost any thing of his earthly possessions, but he had taken one thing --- he had taken his memory. • Those who refuse to obey the Gospel, who persist and continue in their sins will spend an eternity, in the dark world of sorrow and woe with your memory. • Oh how many times have I had the opportunity to do right but have not --- will come back to haunt you. • How many opportunities have I let slip by for obeying the Gospel --- will come back to haunt you. • These times and deeds you have now will be with you in your memory forever!

THE DESTRUCTIVE POWER OF OUR ENEMY • Hell is a place without HOPE. ....Luke 16:26. • One can endure great sorrows and heavy burdens if there is hope of a better day in the future; but in hell there is no hope of a better day. • Its sorrows and its despair are never ending! • WHO IS GOING THERE? • Universalist’s, Unitarians and many Modernists say that nobody is, because there really is no hell; but what does the Bible say? • The wicked shall go there....Psa. 9:17.
