PHYSICAL FITNESS Employees expected to do interior structural fire fighting shall be physically capable of performing duties which may be assigned. Employees withknownheart disease, epilepsy, or emphysema, shall not participate in fire brigade emergency activities unless a physician's certificate of the employees' fitness to participate in such activities is provided.(All FF’s)
TRAINING Training and education for all fire brigade members commensurate with those duties and functions that fire brigade members are expected to perform shall be provided. 15 Hr Initial/8Hr annually STUART SCHRANK LETTER 9/14/85

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION Medical evaluations of employees required to use respirators Fit testing procedures for tight-fitting respirators(ANNUALLY) Procedures for proper use of respirators (SOPs/SOGs) Procedures and schedules for cleaning, disinfecting, storing, inspecting, repairing, discarding, and maintaining respirators
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION Train employees in the respiratory hazards to which they are potentially exposed Train employees in the proper use of respirators Procedures for regularly evaluating the effectiveness of the program Designate a program administrator Provide respirators, training, and medical evaluations at no cost to the employee
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION Provide a full facepiece pressure demand SCBA with a minimum service life of thirty minutes (Positive Pressure) Provide a medical evaluation to determine the employee's ability to use a respirator,before the employee is fit tested or required to use the respirator Written recommendation regarding the employee's ability to use the respirator from a PLHCP
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION Employee is fit tested prior to initial use of the respirator and at least annually thereafter Communication is maintained between the employee(s) in the IDLH atmosphere and the employee(s) located outside the IDLH atmosphere(ACCOUNTABILITY) Employee(s) located outside the IDLH atmosphere are trained and equipped to provide effective emergency rescue (RIT/FAST)
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION 2 IN 2 OUT RULE At least two employees enter the IDLH atmosphere and remain in visual or voice contact with one another at all times At least two employees are located outside the IDLH atmosphere (EXCEPTION – LIFE RESCUE)
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION All employees engaged in interior structural firefighting SHALL use SCBAs. Respirators maintained for emergency use shall be cleaned and disinfected after each use Respirators shall be stored to protect them from damage SCBAs shall be inspected monthly Certify the respirator by documenting the inspection
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION Compressed breathing air shall meet at least the requirements for Grade D breathing air The employer shall provide training prior to requiring the employee to use a respirator Records of medical evaluations must be retained and made available in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.1020
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION The employer shall establish a record of fit tests administered to an employee A written copy of the current respirator program shall be retained by the employer HANDS ON TRAINING OF SCBAs
HAZWOPER An emergency response plan shall be developed and implemented to handle anticipated emergencies First responders at the operational level shall have received at least eight hours of training(ALL FF’S THAT RESPOND) Hazardous materials technicians shall have received at least 24 hours of training
HAZWOPER On scene incident commanders, who will assume control of the incident scene, shall receive at least 24 hours of training Employees trained in accordance with paragraph (q)(6) of this section shall receive annual refresher training HAZMAT team shall receive a baseline physical examination. (At least once every twelve months unless the attending physician believes a longer interval (not greater than biennially)
BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS Written Exposure Control Plan Exposure Control Plan is accessible to employees Exposure Control Plan shall be reviewed and updated annually Exposure determination shall prepared for employee(s) with occupational exposure
BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS If handwashing facilities are not feasible, an appropriate antiseptic hand cleanser with clean cloth/paper towels or antiseptic towelettes shall be provided Employees shall use appropriate PPE Contaminated work surfaces shall be decontaminated Contaminated sharps shall be discarded in “SHARPS” containers
BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS Regulated waste shall be placed in appropriate containers. (RED BIO BAGS) Contaminated laundry shall be bagged or containerized at the location where it was used and shall not be sorted or rinsed in the location of use
BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS Hepatitis B vaccination shall be made available after the employee has received the training required in paragraph (g)(2)(vii)(I) and within 10 working days of initial assignment Employees who decline to accept hepatitis B vaccination SHALL sign the declination statement in Appendix A
BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS Training shall be provided at the time of initial assignment Training shall be provided at least annually Annual training for all employees shall be provided within one year of their previous training Training records shall include the dates of the training sessions
BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS Training Records Contents or a summary of the training Names and qualifications of persons conducting the training Names and job titles of all persons attending the training sessions Maintained for 3 years from the date on which the training occurred Provided upon request for examination and copying to Commissioner of Labor
CONFINED SPACE RESCUE Provide PPE needed to conduct permit space rescues safely Train employees in the use of that PPE Train employees to perform assigned rescue duties At least one member of the rescue team SHALL hold a current certification in first aid and CPR Practice permit space rescues at least once every 12 months
WALK AROUND INSPECTION Conduct a walk around of the fire station Examine equipment on vehicles Examine physical layout Ask many questions!!!
