About the PRSP Formally created on February 19, 1957 160 + Members -- Corporate and PR Agencies Objective PRSP shall work for the advancement of the welfare of the Filipino people through the dignified, ethical and effective practice of public relations.
About the PRSP Vision To be the preeminent Public Relations organization in the Philippines and a center of excellence in PR and communication in the Asia-Pacific. Background on the ban Extreme flooding during typhoons Ondoy and Peping in 2009 caused by clogged drainages Data showed that 75% to 80% of Metro Manila garbage consists of plastic bags and Styrofoam products. (Sources: MMDA, DENR; confirmed by EcoWaste Coalition, Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives, Greenpeace, Mother Earth Foundation) Prompted gov’t units in affected areas to implement a ban: Laguna; Cavite; Quezon; Batangas City; Antipolo, Rizal; Burgos Pangasinan; Sta. Barbara, Iloilo Muntinlupa is the first of Metro Manila cities

Official PPIA Plastics Industry position REGULATION (and not a total ban) on thin, single use non-biodegradable plastic bags below 15microns with a phase out period of 5 years SUBSTITUTION (below 15 microns) with biodegradable plastic bags pursuant to national/international standards on biodegradable plastics Allow the use of non-biodegradable plastic bags 15 microns and above and promote/require RECOVERY FOR RECYCLING provide minimum of P1.00 DISCOUNT or equivalent (e.g. points or freebies) to the customers who would BRING OWN BAGS or RETURN USED PLASTIC BAGS of any type for recycling
