Welcome Franklin Park Stingrays! The Board would like to welcome all of you to the 2009 ODSL Summer Swim Season. We want to thank you for your participation on the Stingrays this year. We look forward to another exciting season and hope to continue to build on the success of last year. Franklin Park Stingrays
Meet Coach Jenn • I grew up swimming on a team in Guam when I was 3. I continued swimming on a summer and winter team until the age of 18. I then swam for two years in college before I got married and started a family. • I began teaching swim lessons at the age of 15 and moved into coaching when I was 20. I am a USS certified coach and coached with York swim club, Country Club of Fairfax, Overlee, YMCA, and now run a Sunday night swim program at Ida Lee. • My goal for Franklin Park is to create a fun learning atmosphere with an emphasis on team and unity while teaching the legal execution of strokes in a friendly competitive environment. • I want the kids to become faster and more efficient in the water but I am equally as interested in building family summer team. • We are in this together. It is an all for one, one for all attitude. • Swimmers will be asked to swim up or in different strokes based on where the team needs them. • I will do my best to put swimmers in the strokes that they want but ultimately it comes down to what is best for the team, not the individual. • If I need a 12 year old to swim 13-14 my hope is that swimmer will be happy and willing to do it. Team Programs • Weekly incentives for the swimmers acknowledging hard work, Personal Best Times and for leadership. • i.e. Beast of the Meet, Most improved, Personal Bests. • Gear – Swimmers should have and bring the following to each practice. • CAPS - Every girl is required to have and wear cap. Boys with hair over their ears must wear a cap too. • Goggles– Every swimmer should have goggles at least for practice. • FINS - Optional – Recommendation – split fin Tyr fins • Sign in sheet – Kids need to sign in at practice • I want help with cheers, and posters. • Team Unity/Spirit Activities • Friday Night Spirit Night -Rotate age groups getting together and make posters for the meet in the morning. Rotate Age Groups weekly. • Team Pep Rallies -whole team get together for a spaghetti dinner, make posters all together... • Mentorship • Each 8 and under will be paired with a senior/older swimmer (13+) • The senior swimmer is responsible to help get their kid up to the start of their race and be their legs in backstroke and cheer them on. Maybe help to give them some additional swim help in practice if I can ask them to help out. • Parent Unity Events • We want to have some nights out, a crab feast, a potluck, a bar crawl…to help our team develop sense of family/friendship/community. Franklin Park Stingrays

2009 Meet Schedule Meet Logistics • Swimmers & Volunteers must Register online for each event (Meet) • Be at pool 1 hour before start time for warm ups and set up • Swimmers check in with their Age Group Rounders Franklin Park Stingrays
Guidelines Swim Meets • Register swimmers availability through web-site for swim meets; by Sunday for Wednesday meets and by Tuesdays for Saturday meets. This ensures that your swimmer(s) will be present for swim meets. • Swimmers MUST check in with Rounder’s prior to Warm-up. • During swim meets, swimmers MUST stay in the team area and with their age group. This helps Rounder’s locate swimmers for events. • Swimmers MUST stay until the end of the swim meet. Relays will occur at the end of each meet and it is critical that ALL swimmers remain at the meet. (NOTE: As with other sports, all participants remain at the event until it is finished [e.g., soccer, baseball, football, lacrosse, etc.]. Swimming is at TEAM sport. • If a swimmer must leave early, they need to notify their rounder and the Head Clerk of Course prior to leaving. • Swimmers who do not “show” for swim meets (unless an illness or emergency occurs) WILL NOT swim in the following meet (Saturday or Wednesday). Franklin Park Stingrays
End of Season Meets • Swimmers may only swim in 1 Post Season Meet. • Divisionals • 5 Divisional Meets - 5 teams per Meet • We will be swimming Divisions at Lovettsville 7/18 • All Swimmers that swim at least 2 meets will qualify for Divisionals. • All Stars • Cut-times will be established for All-Stars • Any swimmer that achieves the cut-time will qualify for All-Stars in that Event. • Any swimmer that achieves a time better than the final cut-time will qualify for All-Stars. There may be ultimately more than 24 swimmers in an event in the All-Star Meet. • If a swimmer qualifies for 1 event for All-Stars, the swimmer may choose to go to All-Stars in the qualified event OR go to his/her Divisional Meet in any other event except the one qualified for in All-Stars. • If the swimmer chooses to swim at his/her divisional Meet, the swimmer forfeits the currently qualified for spot in All-Stars.
