    5. Accommodation It is very important that if you are renting privately you get a contract for your house/flat. If you don’t, you may find it difficult to get your deposit back. Student Advice Centre can help you to check contracts. Report any problems with University accommodation to the Accommodation Office (Talbot House)

    7. Swine Flu Current Government advice suggests the pandemic is likely to peak around the end of October. BU is mindful of the unpredictable nature of this pandemic and are planning accordingly.

Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue bag and bin used tissues promptly Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, to prevent the spread of any virus At home, clean hard surfaces (e.g. door handles, work surfaces) frequently

    9. Swine Flu If you have flu-like symptoms and are concerned that you may have Swine Flu: stay at home or in your residence check your symptoms using the National Pandemic Flu Service contact your ‘flu buddy’

    10. Swine Flu What is a ‘flu buddy’? Identify somebody who in the event of you catching Swine Flu can help you by: collecting antiviral medication on your behalf ensuring you receive food without having to leave your accommodation

    33. What are the askBU Students Service Open Hours? The askBU staffed service is open during the following hours: 8.30 am – 5 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (closed Wednesday afternoons 2 – 3.30 pm for team training) 8.30 am – 4.30 pm Friday

Student Financial Support International Student Support Guidance and assistance on procedural issues, University rules and regulations Issuing replacement documentation (ID Cards and Council Tax Exemption Certificates) Student Financial Support askBU Students Enquiry and Information Service encompasses the posts of Student Finance Officer (Keith) and Student Finance Advisor (Paul) and they remain the ‘specialists’ for advising on issues of student finance such as BU Bursaries, Scholarships, Student Loans etc. Additionally, with the move of the former HSC Student Office into askBU Students Service, we also have the specialist advice on NHS Bursary issues handled by Carol. The rest of the askBU students team are able to offer generic guidance on student finance queries, including checking bu bursary payment details, issuing of forms for e.g., Access to Learning Fund, Emergency Loans, Scholarships, issuing cheques etc, leaving the specialists to deal with the detailed enquiries. International Student Support Barbara has moved to the askBU Students team from the start of March and is responsible for the specialist advice to students on all matters pertaining to immigration from pre-enrolment visa applications, in-study visa extensions and the IGS post study visa applications, as well as assessing fee status of students and FFELP (Federal Family Education Loans Programme). Sandor will be taking up post as Student Advisor with International Student Support focus, assisting Barbara from 28 April. Re-setting Computer Passwords Procedure and programme developed that will enable askBU staff to reset the student computer password to the one generated at enrolment if they have ‘forgotten’ what they changed it to. Exam Timetables askBU will have access to all exam timetables including ALN students and will be able to check details during the exams period. Forms We hold a range of forms including Changes to personal details Mitigating Circs Registering with GP NHS forms for help with healthcare costs (UK stdts only) Requests for replacement documentation etc Graduation Queries Most info is clearly available via the website, but if we get any specific queries we are happy to help or find out the answers.     40. Computer access You need a username and password to access most computers on campus. If you haven’t received your username and password, go to The Base Any problems with online registration, go to The Base. There are computers that don’t require passwords for internet access in The Base (Talbot Campus) If you have a laptop, you can access the internet via the wireless network in most main university buildings.
