Session Overview • One of the most tedious tasks of the Registrar’s Office is creating a course schedule. In this session, participants will learn how Sacred Heart Major Seminary (SHMS) has leveraged EMPOWER data with one of their partners (CELCAT) in developing comprehensive, conflict-free course schedules based on existing sequences. Come learn how the scheduling process has saved SHMS time and money!
Who We Are • SACRED HEART MAJOR SEMINARY • Detroit, Michigan • Mission Statement: Sacred Heart Major Seminary primarily forms priests according to the Heart of Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd, and further, prepares priests, deacons and lay ecclesial ministers, equipping them for the work of ministry in the New Evangelization. • Headcount: approx. 500 students • Staff: approx. 20 full time • Faculty: approx. 29 full time; 46 part-time
The Dilemma • Complicated sequences • Faculty not always fully loaded with their courses • Facilities not fully utilized • Multiple spreadsheets • Academic schedule took three people multiple weeks to compile
Finding a Solution • SHMS commenced a search for a product that would save time, money, and sanity • RFP process solicited multiple vendors, of which a number gave demonstrations • CELCAT selected
EMPOWER – CELCAT:A Tale of Two Systems • Two great, but disparate systems • Duplicate entries • Data entry nightmare • SOLUTION: A seamless interface tool!
