Nordic SkiingChecklist of Procedures • Review procedures on environmental hazards including: heat illness recognition and prevention, lightening, cold, etc. Review charts on lightening and cold hazards as well as review use of lightening detectors. • Explain procedures for dealing with injury and illness, including exposure to blood and / or other body fluids.

Nordic SkiingChecklist of Procedures • Mountain orientation- First practice used to familiarize skiers. • Coach is responsible for proper emergency gear and its presence on the mountain. • Coordination and communication is established with Natrona County Parks and Natrona County Sheriff’s Office.
Nordic SkiingChecklist of Procedures • Transportation to and from practice at Casper Mountain is provided by NCSD#1 school bus. If students choose not to ride on the provided bus and drive or ride with others, all responsibility and assumption of risk is to be assumed by them. If the buses do not run because of weather conditions there will be no practice on the mountain. Travel to or from practice in the dark or under difficult driving conditions should be monitored by coahes.
Nordic SkiingChecklist of Procedures • Equipment: The skier is responsible for the purchase and care of their equipment, a clinic is held prior to the season to cover this area of responsibility. Equipment must also be checked periodically through the season. • Environment: Temperature and other weather factors are of extreme importance in Nordic Skiing. NCSD Nordic Skiing follows the guidelines established by USTA. This is related to the clinic in which proper guidelines and dress are covered.
Nordic SkiingChecklist of Procedures • Workout considerations: Consideration is given to the weather, the snow, the skier, and the workout procedures in establishing workout goals. • Evacuation procedure: (From the mountain) is practiced and reviewed the first day. This is used in case of threatening weather or other situations which may threaten the safety of all concerned.
Nordic SkiingChecklist of Procedures • Injured Skier: Guidelines established by the National Nordic Ski Patrol are followed. These are reviewed by the Ski Patrol annually. Also, the chain of communication for assistance is put into operation. This includes coordination with the County Parks Department, the Sheriffs Office, and if necessary the Wyoming Medical Center. • All athletes have the right to leave an athletic site or activity, without fear of repercussion or penalty if they feel they are in danger.
