Persistence • Martin Luther king was considered a great leader due to his hard work an persistence. In 1963 he decided to confront segregation in a nonviolent way in Birmingham, Alabama. He was jailed but continued fighting. His nonviolent method of confronting segregation brought good results and gave a message of hope to end segregation.
Followers King was supported by African Americans and others who believed in justice, equality, and rights for all. His hard work an dedication to the civil rights movement encouraged others who had the same dream, to follow him and put an end to segregation.
Different from other leaders While some decided to become leaders due to their ambition and thirst of power, Martin Luther King became a leader to motivate others to join him in the fight against segregation. He was a leader for justice and the good of others.
How long ? He was a leader for 13 years(1955-19680) King’s first leadership role was in 1955 when he was elected to lead the boycott of the Montgomery bus. His nonviolent techniques convinced others to follow him and became the most important leader of the civil rights movement.
Positive traits King was persistent and did not give up when he faced obstacles in his life. He was determined to overcome segregation. King was nonviolent and he applied nonviolent techniques to overcome segregation.
Negative traits Some believed that his nonviolent method of fighting segregation did not bring any results. “Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle.” Martin Luther king Jr.
background Martin Luther King lived in a loving home. He lived in a segregated country where he wished for equality. Both his father and grandfather were ministers, which exposed Martin Luther King Jr. to religion. Later, King followed in his fathers footsteps and also became a minister.
Background and leadership Martin Luther King lived in a segregated country, where African Americans had few rights and equalities. Because he lived in a segregated country, his desire to live equally inspired him to fight it and get involved in the civil rights movement. Inequality and racism that King lived throughout his life, led him to stand up to segregation and becoming a leader.
Falling from power After fighting segregation for many years as a civil rights activists, King was assassinated by James Earl Ray. King was killed in April 4, 1968. His death caused many riots.
