  5. Seeking Grants • Importance of Pursuing Grants--> personal benefits --> institutional benefits --> HQP

  6. Successful Research is a Social Process • Interaction • Feedback • Re-thinking • Revising • Retesting All of these are essential for your ideas to grow in clarity, rigour and sophistication.

  7. Networking • Networking Locally • Networking at conferences • Networking within your discipline and the granting agencies

  8. Working with Graduate Students • The training of Highly Qualified Personnel (HQPs) - Tri-councils see this as one of their primary tasks • Involving grad students will increase the odds of the council funding your research

  9. Conclusion • Research is a process of social interaction • Plan your process as you plan your research
