  1. Welcome to EPE 489 INTENTION TWO: Personal/Professional Experiences – demonstrating applications of curriculum and pedagogy that would assist other teachers… What Murray had to say!

  2. Personal/Professional Experiences • What did you do that seemed to work? • What planning had to take place? • Are these ‘one-off’ experiences? • What were the benefits? • Where do you go from here?

  3. What Murray Said . . . . Change - Murray talked about how fast everything is changing, yet education is not ....  Laugh - Everyone screws up, especially in education and when that happens its so important to use laughter .... He told us to be prepared to answer the question what is one thing from your portfolio you would like to share in an interview .... He was asking us that we could potentially be asked in an interview .... He said he hires people who he knows .... Murray pointed out that he would only look for one key part of my portfolio, however if someone did not have one he would take note of that as well .... Murray suggested that it is not a bad idea to sub and get more networking before if we are not 100% sure we would like to teach ....

  4. What Murray Said . . . . if we could get some practice interview scenarios and go through them so we can practice on the spot solutions ....  the application process for getting on the sub list somewhere .... if we want to go out of SK to teach can we get our teacher certificate number by subbing .... it is key to be prepared .... be honest and be ourselves when we answer interview questions .... choose the thing I'm most proud of in my portfolio and know how to explain it .... I was always told subbing the first year made it harder to get a permanent job because you may be out of the curricula and planning for the duration of your time subbing, its good to know it could actually help to get a job because you become known in the division by principals and potential employers!

  5. What Murray Said . . . . maybe you will not get a full time teaching job at the end of June, however .... don't let this discourage you from sticking with the teaching profession ....  experience is something they take into consideration, therefore if need be you can be on the sub list for a while before being offered a full time position.... donot pigeon hole yourself .... if students are not behaving in your class it is probably because they are bored ....

  6. What Murray Said . . . . be honest! Don't pretend to be something you are not, and don't pretend to know about something you don't. Be willing to admit that there are things that you want to work on .... be prepared for the interview .... know what you are going to talk about in regard to certain questions, and do your research on the school/school division that you are being hired for .... your language is important .... being yourself in the interview is key. You don't want to corner yourself and you want to make sure you're the right fit .... go in prepared and with confidence .... what to do when you can not draw on an experience to answer an interview question
