ELA October 28, 2013 Needed Materials: source book, paper, pen Agenda Note: • Smart Stations Homework: • Read independent reading book. Warm-up: Take out your 5 labeled sheets of paper and pen.Write 5-8 sentences on the following topic. Indignant: angry about something unjust (adj) Many people become indignant when they see something that is unfair or mean. What makes you indignant? What can you do about it?
Essential Questions & Standard • What are Smart Stations? • What are sentence structures and how do they enhance your writing? • What are adjectives out of order and action verb brush strokes? • How do they enhance writing? • How do you write an effective paragraph? • How do you revise for grammatical and mechanical errors in writing? • How do you use the habits of reading to increase reading comprehension skills? LA.8.ELACC8L1 - Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
Opening: Things to Remember Read the directions for each Smart Station. Make sure that you have completed the assignment. If you have questions, ask a group member and then a teacher.
Work Session Reading Comprehension Station • Complete the selection and questions. Brush Strokes Station • Use the steps to help you create brush strokes. • Remember 1 simple sentence; paint 2 AOO and 2 AV brush strokes. Sentence Structures Station • Group: Play matching game; match sentence structures card to example sentences. • Write example sentences. Writing Effective Paragraphs Station • Arrange strips in order to create an effective paragraph. • Chose a topic and write an effective paragraph. Follow directions. Grammar & Sentence Correction Station • Write the corrected sentences on your paper. Correct for capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and/or subject-verb agreement.
