  1. OPEN HOUSE MS. GUILLEN Algebra 1

  2. Course description Algebra 1 is intended to build a foundation for all higher math classes. This course will review algebraic expressions, integers, and mathematical properties that will lead into working with variables and linear equations. There will be an in-depth study of graphing, polynomials, quadratic equations, data analysis and systems of equations through direct class instruction, group work, homework, student projects and technology.

  3. #2 Pencils or lead pencil ONLY • Binder • Dividers • College ruled filler paper • $5 math fee

  4. Homework • Homework is assigned daily, and it is due by next class, unless otherwise specified. • Homework may or may not be posted on the school’s website, but it will be assigned during class • Homework completion is of utmost importance to succeed in this course. Late assignments will not be graded, unless it is make-up work. Make-up work will not be accepted after the material has been tested. No exceptions

  5. Attendance • An absent student will be held responsible for getting all make-up work. Being absent from class may hinder a student’s academic progress. If possible, don’t miss class at all. • As stated in the Parent Handbook: “Teachers are required to provide students with make-up assignments once the absence has been excused; however, it is the responsibility of the student to request the assignments from the teacher(s).” \

  7. TEXTBOOK AND MATHLETICS • Matheltics is due every week (Sunday). This program will help prepare your child practice math skills that we are learning in class! • Algebra 1 Textbook can be accessed online. This textbook can be used for extra practice problems and examples learned in class. • www.connected.mcgraw-hill.com

  8. Parent communication • Every nine weeks, I make phone calls to the parents of the students that are failing my class with a D or F. I also make phone calls if I feel that a student has improved or is doing an excellent job in my class. • Please communicate with me for any concern, questions, or comment via email at mguillen15@dadeschools.net • If you would like a parent conference, please arrange the conference with the main office. The phone number is (305)597-9950
