TEXAS A&M ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT SITE SUPERVISOR – SR. ASSOC. ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL OPERATIONS: JEFF SCHMAHL JSCHMAHL@ATHLETICS.TAMU.EDU 9798451030
INTERNSHIP SITE RANKING I rate my internship site with 4 out of 5 stars. The internship allowed me an opportunity to see different aspects all throughout the athletic department. The reason I did not give it a 5 was because of the distance at times between me and my site supervisor. There were a few time I needed to get a hold of him and couldn’t, that was the only downfall of the internship.
WORDS OF WISDOM -BE WILLING TO DO ANY JOB – NO MATTER HOW SMALL -SHAKE AS MANY HANDS AND MEET AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN – THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE THESE PEOPLE WILL BE ASSETS SOMEDAY -BE OPEN MINDED AND FLEXIBLE – YOU WILL LIKELY BE PUT IN UNFAMILIAR SITUATIONS AND WILL NEED TO ADJUST -SHOW YOU CAN BE A TEAM PLAYER – THIS WILL BE KEY FOR NEW HIRES
INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES • Research on marketing, ticket sales and charity programs • Work on and complete projects for the Lettermen’s Association • Spend time with 12th Man Productions • Spend time the Athletic Marketing Department • Day to day operations with Sr. Assoc. Athletic Director of External Operations Jeff Schmahl
DAILY ACTIVITIES My daily activities fluctuated widely from day to day but most frequently focused on my projects: -Be in the office by 8:00 am (attend meetings from time to time that my supervisor asked me to be present at) -Go through and respond to emails -Spend the morning working on whichever project I was presently working on -Go to lunch -Come back to the office for a few hours before football -Most evenings I would spend time on the projects because of the fewer hours that I had to spend in the office
PROJECT DESCRIPTION We have created a survey that has be sent out to other Division I Athletic Programs throughout the U.S. The survey is broken down into three parts. First, charity programs – Texas A&M is working to create a new way to manage the high quantity of charity requests they receive each month. The second and third portions of the survey pertain to ticket sales and marketing departments. With this research, a report will help the athletic department stay ahead of the curve in these three areas. Additionally, it will allow us to create the most appropriate system for our athletics charity programs.
