  1. English 10 Vocabulary Be able to spell, define, and use each vocabulary word correctly. You will need two sheets of notebook paper for this activity. You will keep one sheet to use as a study guide. You will hand in the second sheet for a grade.

  2. Be able to spell, define, and use the following vocabulary words for Friday. Copy these words on a sheet of paper that you will SAVE. abound 6. voracious technology 7. indiscriminate prognosticate 8. eminent automaton 9. steeped matron 10. replete

  3. Read the paragraph carefully. Try to determine the meanings of the italicized words as they are used in context. Copy the words printed in red on another sheet of paper to use for the next slide. The worlds of science-fiction abound with wonders, yet modern technology progresses so rapidly that what may be today’s wild dream may be next year’s kitchen appliance. A British scientist has prognosticated that within ten years every suburban matron will have her own robot servant. One task this domesticated automaton will not have to contend with will be scouring the oven because even today the newest ranges can be “programmed” to reduce their own baked-on grime to easily disposed of ashes.

  4. On the second piece of paper, (which will be handed in for a grade) number 1-5, then write the correct vocabulary word in the appropriate sentence below. You may change the endings of words as needed. The mayor refused to _______________ as to his margin of victory in the election.   6. Read the paragraph carefully. Try to determine the meanings of the italicized words as they are used in context. Add the words in red to your earlier list. The person who reads voraciously, though indiscriminately, does not necessarily gain in wisdom over the individual who is more selective in his reading choices. A person who has read the life story of every eminent athlete of the twentieth century, or an individual who has steeped herself in every social-protest novel she can get her hands on, may very well be learning all there is to know in a very limited area. However, books are replete with so many wonders that it is often discouraging to see bright students limit their experiences.

  7. Number 11-15 on your paper. Using the vocabulary words from the second paragraph, fill in the correct word in each sentence below.
